On January 30, 2018, officers responded to a call for a possible emotionally
disturbed suspect. With their Taser weapons, the officers attempted to
engage the suspect who was armed with a steak knife. The Taser weapons
had no effect on the suspect, so he was able to rush and attack Officer Daniel
Dermyer with the knife.
Officer Dermyer was stabbed in the armpit and side where he was not covered
by his armor. However, his ABA XT03 level II armor stopped the knife from
penetrating his torso. Other officers were able to stop the attack and take
the assailant into custody. Officer Dermyer is recovering and will return to
duty soon.
