On August 5, 2018, Sergeant Adam Hicks and Officer Justin Wing of the Van
Buren Police Department responded to a domestic disturbance complaint
between a husband and wife. In order to deescalate the situation, Officer
Wing escorted the wife outside the residence while the husband went into
the bedroom.
Upon exiting the bedroom, the husband was holding a pistol in each hand.
Sergeant Hicks requested Officer Wing to come back inside the residence,
while he attempted to convince the husband to drop the guns.
However, the husband refused and opened fire on Sergeant Hicks – hitting
him in the chest. The sergeant’s Safariland® SM02 level II armor stopped the
round and he was able to stay in the fight. Both Sergeant Hicks and Officer
Wing returned fire and ended the threat.
Sergeant Hicks was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
We welcome Sergeant Adam Hicks, SAVE #2028, to The Safariland Group
