On April 14, 2018 Corporal James “Eric” Cook of the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a missing juvenile.
While searching a wooded area between a congested neighborhood and a church, Corporal Cook located an individual who he believed to be the missing person. While attempting to detain and make an identification, the individual turned and began firing a .45 ACP pistol at Corporal Cook from just twelve inches away.
Corporal Cook was hit in the face below the right eye and in the chest. Corporal Cook’s Safariland® XT03 level II armor stopped the round to the chest. The suspect fled to a nearby outbuilding behind a residence and, after an extensive search, was apprehended without incident.
After 10 months of recuperation from the shot to the face, Corporal Cook returned to duty at the end of February. Corporal Cook was awarded the Law Enforcement Purple Heart for his actions.
We welcome Corporal James “Eric” Cook as SAVE #2055, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
