On June 2, 2019, Trooper Paul Wise attempted a traffic stop and the driver refused to pull over. After a short pursuit, the suspect stopped and immediately exited his vehicle and opened fire, shooting several rounds at Trooper Wise.
Multiple FN 5.7X28 rounds struck Trooper Wise’s patrol car, with several striking the windshield. One round hit Trooper Wise in the torso and was stopped by his Safariland® SX02 level II armor. Trooper Wise exited his patrol vehicle and returned fire, subduing the suspect, until backup arrived.
Trooper Wise was treated and released from the hospital and the suspect is facing multiple felony charges.
