On February 15, 2019 Officer Justin Sanders conducted a traffic stop on a robbery suspect. As he approached the suspect who was sitting in the passenger seat, the suspect opened fire with a .45 ACP handgun. The suspect then exited the vehicle and continued shooting at Officer Sanders. Officer Sanders was hit 5 times – once in the face, twice in the hip and twice on his armor. His Safariland® Xtreme® XT03 Level II vest stopped both rounds to his torso.
The suspect fled after shooting Officer Webb and was located shortly thereafter. A long barricaded-suspect-standoff ensued and the suspect perished in a fire that ended the standoff.
Officer Sanders went through months of physical rehabilitation for the injuries off the armor and returned to duty last month.
We welcome Officer Justin Sanders, SAVE #2065, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
