Officer Leahy was investigating a report of a man with a gun. Sighting a young male answering the reported description, Leahy exited his car and followed the suspect into an alley. As Leahy entered the passageway, the man jumped out from behind a parked car some 15 feet away firing a .38spl. The first shot hit Leahy in the elbow spinning him around. The second shot struck him in the center of his back becoming embedded in his Second Chance® vest. The third shot missed the officer as he crawled back to his unit to radio for help. The suspect was picked up four blocks away.
