Officer Rihl’s doctor informed his superior that the only reason Rihl survived his brush with death was that he he was wearing his Second Chance® body armor. Rihl and his partner had stopped a “suspicious person” and were questioning him along the side of the road when the suspect produced a knife. Both officers, stepping back to draw their weapons, backed into oncoming traffic and were hit. Rihl’s partner was thrown into the suspect while Rihl ended up 140-feet from the point of impact with multiple fractures and a shredded uniform. There were no major injuries above Rihl’s waist because his vest “distributed the shock around the trunk.”
We welcome Officer Anthony Rihl, SAVE #238, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
