Officer Trost was involevd in an auto accident, in which the collapsible steering wheel didn’t collapse. The officer was driving a 1981 Chevy Malibu, met a 1951 Hudson commodore completly reconditioned – it was all steel and weighed 8,000 lbs. Squad car weighed 3,500. Other driver turned left in front of Trost. Trost hit a tree and steering wheel didn’t collapse. It took them 45 minutes to get out – was hospitalized for 2 weeks and on leave 3-4 months. Had 4 knee surgerys.
