Officer McCarthy was one of several law officers called to an apartment complex on a “domestic argument” call. After the arguing couple was separated, the female picked up a 12″ butcher knife from under some clothes and hurled it across the room. The blade caught McCarthy’s Second Chance® vest one-inch from the edge of the panel. The knife stopped short of skewering the officer. Doctors estimate the injury would have been more severe had it not been for the body armor.
