When the first unit on a call to a shooting scene received a window-shattering blast from a 12ga. shotgun, McElhiney decided to approach the house from the alley. The assailant was waiting for him and stepped out from behind some brush firing. Slightly injured, McElhiney returned fire, downing his attacker. As he approached his assailant, the subject rose up and fired again striking McElhiney in the right upper arm and chest. McElhiney was wearing his Second Chance® vest with side panels, which absorbed and deflected the 12ga. charge.
We welcome Officer Walter McElhiney, SAVE #273, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
