I approached the driver’s door as I had a thousand times in the past. Suddenly my ears went deaf and I felt a hard blow to my chest. Officer Simmons had just been hit “just below the left shirt pocket with a .22 bullet.” Dr. Tex Stone stated, “if I had not been wearing the (Second Chance®) vest I would have died before I returned fire. “My daughter had her 4th birthday the day I was released from the hospital. I could not think of a better birthday present to give her than daddy being home to watch her blow out her candles.”
