When off-duty Dedeaux doubles as a security officer for his own company. While on-duty as a security officer in a local shopping center, Dedeaux noticed a suspect helping himself to a half-dozen ham sandwiches in a deli. The suspect lost Dedeaux’s at one end of the center but was picked up again at the other. As Dedeaux grabbed the suspects arm to usher him back to the deli, the suspect drew a knife and stabbed Dedeaux in the lower left side of his abdomen. The knife did not penetrate Dedeaux because of the Second Chance® vest worn under his uniform shirt.
