Officer Kamphuis encountered a “resident” who was bent on suicide but did not have the guts to do it himself. He came at Kamphuis with a knife striking him twice in the lower chest area. The third thrust entered the lawman’s arm where he promptly drew his weapon and made the man’s wish come true. The knife thrusts to the chest area were deterred by the Second Chance® vest Kamphuis was wearing.
