Deputy John Ruterbusch

Bay County Sheriff’s Department Bay City MI Saves Club

Deputy Ruterbusch made a routine traffic stop and was approaching the driver’s side of the stopped vehicle when the driver poked a .22 rifle out the window and began pulling the trigger. Four slugs hit Ruterbusch. Three of them stopped in his Second Chance® vest. The fourth was a “through” shot to his arm. Ruterbusch’s partner blew out the cars windows emptying his gun in the direction of the first shots fired. He then went to help Ruterbusch who was lying on the road attempting to draw his own weapon. As Ruterbusch was being attended to, the assailant put his car in gear and started off. Ruterbusch drew his own gun and fired. The suspect was found the next day near death.
