Officer Warren Smith

Madison Town Police Department Madison ME Saves Club

A speeding vehicle passed Patrolman Smith’s car in the opposite direction doing 75 MPH in a posted 35 MPH zone. Smith made a U-turn and gave chase. As the vehicle came to a sharp turn in the road, it went off raising smoke and dust in Smith’s path. Making visibility down to zero, Smith hit the brakes and held on. He went off the road into a ditch and striking the opposite bank at 55 MPH. The seat belt and shoulder harness failed throwing Smith into the steering wheel. the cruiser caught fire, but Smith was able to get out in time and put the first out with an extinguisher. Dr. Schipitsch, attending physician, noted more serious injuries would have taken place had it not been for the Second Chance® vest Smith was wearing at the time.
