Officer Fritz and two fellow officers were in foot pursuit of a fleeing armed robber. The robber had just smashed his get-away car into a squad car and exited the scene with cash and a snub-nose .44 in his belt. Finding himself cornered, the felon turned on his captors thinking he’d take a few of them with him. One of the first shots hit Fritz directly below his heart. The slug from the .44 special was found in the carrier cover of Fritz’s Second Chance® vest. Slugs from the officers” return fire were found in the assailant’s leg, hip and shoulder.
