Officer McCluskey apparently broke up an auto theft attempt early one Sunday morning. As his patrol car rounded a corner of a subdivision, a man tampering with a parked car took off running. McCluskey gave chase only to find the fleeing felon had a partner waiting for him. McCluskey didn’t see his assailant until he was almost on top of him firing a .38. McCluskey was hit with the first round deflecting off his Second Chance® vest into his lower body causing minor injury. McCluskey was still able to return fire, get back to his unit and call for assistance. Without the vest, medical authorities said, the bullet would have severed the lower quadrant of the aorta causing death instantly.
We welcome Officer Doug McCluskey, SAVE #320, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
