Officer Brian Souza and his partner answered an assault call at a local apartment complex. They were met at the door by an agitated, elderly man. During the conversation, Souza noticed a kitchen knife in the man’s hand. He asked the man to put the knife down or give it to his partner. He made a motion to give Souza the knife and then lunged at Souza striking him in the abdomen. During the struggle the man was disarmed and placed under arrest. Souza’s Second Chance® armor deterred penetration at the intial struggle.
