Sergeant Jim Appugliese was attempting to arrest an individual on warrants at the subject’s home. The subject broke free and ran into a back bedroom with Appugliese in pursuit. As he caught up with the subject, Appugliese was attacked with a knife. The officer received six stab thrusts, two to his head, one in the back of his neck and one in the shoulder. Two other thrusts were on his Second Chance® armor; one in the right chest and one in the middle of his back, both of which would have been fatal.
