Welch was wearing his Second Chance® Deep Cover armor the day he was in pursuit of a fleeing driver and vehicle. Welch lost control of his car as it skidded off the road on gravel. Hitting an embankment at high speed flipped the cruiser end-over-end twice before coming to a rest on it roof. During the “roll”, Welch’s head took out the windshield while his chest destroyed the dashboard. Without the vest, writes Dr. Pancoast, Welch “would have likely suffered severe injuries to his shoulder girdle and chest wall, possibly a punctured a lung or serious internal bleeding.”
We welcome Officer David Welch, SAVE #355, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
