Officer Kono was chasing a speeder when he lost control of his squad car on a frozen bridge. Kono struck the concrete center pillar of a viaduct, at approximately 55 MPH. The steering wheel ring was broken by the impact of the officer’s chest. The steering column had Kono pinned in the car until the fire department extracted him nearly 25-minutes later. The attending doctor stated that if not for the Second Chance® vest he (Kono) would have been killed or very seriously injured.
We welcome Officer Michael Kono, SAVE #381, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
