Officer Fennell responded to a fight scene with several other deputies. During the attempt to break up the fight, the crowd started to gather around the deputies. Fennell felt several punches to his back. When he turned around to see who had assaulted him several of the spectators ran away. On the ground, behind him, was a folding-type knife with a three-inch blade. Fennell felt the back of his uniform shirt and discovered slash marks and torn material where someone attempted to stab him in the back only to have the penetration detered by his Second Chance® concealable armor.
