Deputy Gudenau was involved in a head-on collision. Dr. Paulk, attending physician, stated that although Gudenau did experience blunt thoracic trauma, “he did not end up with any significant rib fractures, sternal fractures or clavicle fractures” due to the flak jacket (Second Chance®) armor he was wearing at the time of impact.
