Officer Bednarz and his partner were dispatched to a residence in response to an anonymous complaint of a domestic argument. Bednarz entered the house when he received no answer at the door. As he walked down the hallway leading to the back bedroom, his assailant opened the bedroom door and fired at the officer. The .357 slug hit Bednarz in the abdomen, covered by his Model Y2A Second Chance® armor. Bednarz, knocked back by the blast, was able to return fire hitting his assailant in the left chest and thigh.
