A .410 almost turned officer Wands into a permanent 10-4. Six months after purchasing a Second Chance® vest, Wands confronted a trigger-happy subject with a sawed-off shotgun. Taking a hit on the lower right side front of the vest, Wands sustained minor injuries to his hand but the vest took the full impact of the blast. Without the vest, Wands would have had a very fast, but crude, appendix removal.
