On April 1, 1989, Officer Chestnut was on patrol when he suddenly noticed a tractor trailer that was pulled across two northbound lanes. Due to the tractor trailer’s lack of side lights, but the time Chestnut saw it, there was no way to avoid a collision. The impact threw him into the steering column but no serious injuries were sustained due to his Second Chance® armor he was wearing at the time of the accident.
