Officer Schuh had stopped to investigate a red truck parked alongside the road without license tabs. Four minutes after notifying his dispatch he was leaving his vehicle to investigate, he was back on the air reporting his “shots fired” incident. The truck driver, a DUI, pulled out a .25 from his waistband shooting at Schuh three times, hitting him twice, once in the stomach and once in the left thigh. As the truck sped off, Schuh was able to return fire striking the fleeing vehicle. Schuh was wearing his Second Chance® armor at the time of the shooting and his front ballistic panel stopped and held the slug preventing torso penetration.
