Officer Lucas made what he thought was a routine traffic stop pulling over a suspicious vehicle at 3:45AM. As the driver stepped from his “85 Mazda, he pulled a 9mm handgun and shot Lucas six-times. Three bullets hit Lucas” Second Chance® armor while three missed, hitting his hand and just below the vest. Lucas was able to crawl back to his car and radio for help as his assailant took off on foot. After a four-hour manhunt the officer’s attacker was cornered and hit seventeen times by the return fire of fellow officers.
