Officer “Gene” Helms was approaching the scene of a disturbance call when two patrol cars met each other in a “freak” accident. Helms totaled two police cars, but was able to convince his superior after proving he was not injured due to his Second Chance® vest, to move his equipment to another car and finish out the remainder of his 6-hour shift.
