While out on patrol, Officer Larry Covington was faced with a split-second decision: either leave the road or hit another car. He opted to leave the road and hit a tree. Covington was thrown from the car and rendered unconscious. The steering wheel was bent with his chest and sliced the back of his uniform shirt on jagged metal. His Second Chance® vest absorbed the impact of the crash and saved him from further, permanent injury.
