On January 18, 1990, while on duty investigating a traffic accident, Officer Janise was struck by a truck driven by a drunk driver. A jagged piece of metal from the truck ripped through Janise’s jacket, shirt and the carrier of his Second Chance® armor protecting his chest from a nasty penetrating cut.
