Overstreet was on a foot patrol near a wooded housing development when he came upon a drug deal going down. The two male subjects dropped their goods and took off running. Overstreet caught up with one of the subjects who happened to have a .22 handgun in his pocket. During the struggle, the subject took the weapon from his pocket and shot Overstreet in the chest. He then attempted to shoot the officer in the face, but Overstreet pulled the gun away as the blast hit him in the right lower shoulder. Both slugs stopped in the first layers of his Second Chance® armor.
