While on security patrol Barrera was checking out some voices in an alleyway. As he entered the dark alley he was sprayed in the face with a liquid substance momentarily blinding him. He was struck on the head and shot in the stomach area. As the assailants ran he called for assistance. The med techs treated Barrera for stab wounds in his left leg and arm and found a .45 slug in his carrier after stopping in his Second Chance® armor.
