Deputy Harder was on a residential patrol checking out a summer cottage which had been vandalized recently. As he drove by he noticed a silhouette of an individual next to the building. Harder stopped and exited his vehicle. The individual disappeared behind the dwelling so Harder began a perimeter check of the out buildings. As Harder approached a storage building, an unknown assailant approached from the blind side and fired a .22LR round into his left ribcage. The assailant then fled on foot with Harder in pursuit. The shooter was able to lose the officer in the footchase. Ballistics information show the .22 slug penetrating the top two layers of Harder’s Second Chance® armor. The case remains open and under investigation as the assailant has not been identified.
