In the early morning hours, while on routine patrol, officers from the Piedmont police department attempted to pull over a reckless driver. The chase turned into a free-fire as the police returned fire from the driver of the other car. After several shots, the driver skidded into a ditch. On exiting the car the subject fired more blasts from his 12ga, with #1 pellets from one of his blasts striking Officer Putman in the chest as he got out of his car. A single pellet struck Putman directly over his heart, lodging itself in his concealed Second Chance® IIA Superfeatherlite armor. The assailant attempted escape but was captured shortly thereafter.
We welcome Officer Mike Putman, SAVE #586, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
