On February 6, 1976, Officer Casler and his partner responded to a suspicious person call at a local business store. On arrival at the scene, the culprit attacked the officers and managed to remove the .38 weapon from Casler’s holster. He then turned the weapon on the officers, fatally wounding one officer and shooting Casler in the back. Officer Casler was wearing a Second Chance® vest, survived the attack, and was able to testify against the culprit who took the life of a brother officer.
