Wortham observed three men pulling a cover off a pickup bed in an apartment complex he was patrolling at about 0415. When he asked them if they lived in the complex they stated no and were just passing through. Small talk developed into some accusations. One of the men pulled a .38. Wortham lunged for the gun as the weapon discharged striking him in the chest. At the time Wortham was wearing his boss” Second Chance® ComfortLite IIA armor. The impact knocked Wortham down but he was able to draw his weapon and fire several rounds at his fleeing assailants. Wortham was treated and released from St. Francis Hospital the next day with a bruised, sore, but intact chest.
We welcome Officer Archie Wortham, SAVE #602, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
