Officer Perry made a traffic stop at 0115 on a pickup truck he witnessed weaving through traffic. The driver of the pickup came out of his cab with his .45 drawn and firing as he rushed Perry. At least six shots were fired, five of them striking Perry, once in the chest, three in his legs and one in his back as he lay next to his car. The chest shot was caught in his Second Chance® concealable vest. The vest was given to him when he graduated from the academy less than a year from the date of this shooting. The gunman made good his escape after attacking Officer Perry.
