Officer Longley was sitting opposite another officer who was cleaning his .45 weapon. An accidental discharge occurred with the .45 slug ricocheting off the floor and into Longley’s concealed Second Chance® IIA armor. Had Longley’s vest not stopped the fragmented slug, writes Deputy Chief Mondragon, “It would have entered the chest area just below the left arm pit.”
