Bill and his family were inside his house celebrating his 32nd birthday. Noticing a commotion outside, Bill went to the front door and found someone had tried to set his house on fire. Two male suspects were seen running away. Bill took off after them. While walking down the street with his gun drawn, one of the subjects stepped from behind some tall bushes, placed his .25 in Bill’s stomach and pulled the trigger. Another shot hit McIlvain in the groin area and the bullet traveled down his leg. McIlvain returned fire, fatally wounding one of the subjects. Officer McIlvain not only wore his Second Chance® vest while on duty, but it became a necessary part of leisurewear also.
