Deputy Rodriguez was chasing, on foot, two male subjects, involved in a prior hit/run accident, later abandoning their vehicle. He was within an arms length attempting to arrest the subject, when the man stopped, turned and pointed a 9mm pistol at Rodriguez and fired four rounds striking the officer once in the chest. The assailant made good his escape and Rodriguez was transported to the hospital, treated and released that same night. Rodriguez was wearing a SUPERfeatherlite IIA Second Chance® at the time of this incident.
