Sgt. Madden was a member of the tactical team called out to assist in apprehending a murder suspect who had taken refuge in his mobile home. On entry, the team encountered gunfire from the suspect blasting away with a .22 in one hand and a 9mm in the other. Madden was struck in the right shoulder with a 9mm round. The slug was stopped in his Second Chance® SFL3A Command Jac. Two other officers were with Madden but were not hit. All three officers returned fire, killing the suspect.
