Jones was on a routine patrol in a housing project when he encountered a subject in the 6th floor stairwell. After being unable to produce sufficient ID, Jones started to escort him down the stairs. The subject, walking in front of Jones, stopped, turned and pulled a .22 revolver with a 6″ barrel from his waistband, pointed at Jones and pulled the trigger. The slug struck Jones in the lower right abdomen protected by his Second Chance® SFL IIA armor. When the subject saw Jones still standing and reaching for his own .357, the shooter dropped his weapon and fled down the stairs. Jones fired three times but was unable to determine if any of his rounds hit the fleeing target.
