Prude, assigned to the Hollywood area, was investigating a burglary when he was struck by a single round fired from a 9mm semi-auto pistol. The impact was on his left chest area, protected by his SC229 model vest. Capt. Stuart Maislin stated that the department issued Second Chance® vest saved the officer’s life.
