Officer Hamilton finished calling for backup when his assailant opened fire with a 7mm rifle. The first round penetrated his car door striking Hamilton in the right arm then traveling into the officer’s Ultima II armor, stopping in the last layer of ballistic fabric. Backup returned fire wounding the gunman and placing him under arrest. Hamilton was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released the same day.
