Officer Madden was behind the wheel of her parked police unit, with lights on and overheads flashing. She and her partner, John Garza, were faced south waiting for a northbound vehicle being pursued by another police car. When the pursued vehicle saw Madden’s car ahead, he swerved across all lanes striking Madden and Garza head on at approximately 55mph. Both officers were wearing Second Chance® SMF IIA armor. Both received minor injuries and were able to return to duty shortly after the vehicular homicide attempt.
