Detective Stanton was part of a tactical team dispatched to a bar in Texas City. There was lone gunman, allegedly high on cocaine, inside the bar and he had taken over the business, clearing out the patrons and employees. He was threatening to kill himself and anyone else who got in the way. In trying to flush out the suspect with tear gas, a gun battle ensued. During the course of the gun battle, Detective Stanton was struck in the upper right chest with a .45 caliber bullet. Detective Stanton was treated and released from the hospital the same day. He most certainly would have been killed or seriously wounded without his Second Chance® Body Armor.
