Deputy Carrithers responded to a 911 call from a convalescent home in rural Oktibbeha County. The caller indicated that there was an intruder trying to gain entry into the home. When Carrithers arrived, the intruder had managed to gain entry into the home and was threatening to kill everyone there. In an attempt to thwart Carrithers, the assailant attacked him with a roofing hammer. Carrithers was hit numerous times on the back of his Second Chance® vest. According to Lt. Randy Ginn of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Criminal Investigation Bureau, Deputy Carrithers” Second Chance® Body Armor did not fail him.
