Officer Brown and his partner were on street patrol duty on New Year’s Eve. They were responding to complaints of noise and gunfire. Upon entering an intersection they were struck broadside by another car that failed to stop at the intersection. The patrol car spun out and struck a traffic control signal box. The other car spun out and flipped. Both officers had to be extricated from their patrol vehicle. They were transported to the hospital and were treated and released with minor injuries. The driver of the other car was under the influence of alcohol and was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Brown’s physician, the body armor he was wearing reduced the extent of his injuries and quite possibly saved him from death.
