Officer Smith had stopped a driver for a traffic violation. The driver of the vechile repeatedly returned to Smith’s unit. While Smith was sitting in his patrol explaining the violation to the driver, Smith was struck by a vehicle in which the driver was intoxicated. The force of the crash threw Smith into his steering wheel and his head into the windshield. His Second Chance® vest saved him from serious, possibly fatal, chest injuries.
